The half-lid of this pan opened so that the cook could watch or add contents while cranking to turn the agitator that both scraped the floor of the pan with a wide blade and mixed the contents with two upright blades to keep them from burning. Hunters and outdoorsmen could have used such a utensil to prepare a rich porridge with lard and cream over a campfire.
