Two parts compose the vessel of this oval, cast-iron roaster. Its handle is cast as part of the lower container. The lid fits into a groove in the ball joint, and a tooth slides into the handle, locking the lid in place. The unit remained tightly closed as it turned the beans inside so they did not burn. Notice the finger loop on the top for lifting the heavy lid and the two handles on the base for carrying the device.
