A cast-iron, wall-mounted coffee bean grinder was a common tool in late 19th- and early 20th-century kitchens. This model, called Crystal because of its glass jar, offered advantages over other grinders with wood or metal containers. The glass jar showed the contents, and openings at the top and bottom allowed for easy cleaning and filling with beans or grounds from either end.
